Representative Christina Morales is seeking an experienced Legislative Director who is highly motivated, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and possesses strong interpersonal, research, and writing skills. Under the direction of the Representative and Chief of Staff, the Legislative Director will assist in developing policy positions, managing the office's legislative agenda, and supervising legislative staff to effectively serve the constituents of House District 145.

The position is located at the Texas Capitol in Austin and reports directly to the Chief of Staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, track, and advance the Representative's legislative agenda.
  • Manage legislation throughout the legislative process, including drafting, filing, committee preparation, and floor strategy.
  • Monitor legislation and committee activity relevant to the Representative's priorities.
  • Prepare policy briefs, speeches, talking points, testimony, and legislative correspondence.
  • Serve as the Representative's liaison with legislative offices, state agencies, stakeholders, and community organizations.
  • Supervise legislative staff and interns.
  • Research policy issues and advise the Representative on legislative priorities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Representative or Chief of Staff.

Qualifications:

Applicants should have a bachelor's degree in public policy, political science, law, or a related field. Candidates should have experience in the Texas Legislature, public policy, or a related field and possess strong knowledge of the Texas legislative process. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional writing, research, analytical, and organizational skills, professionalism, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Bilingual English/Spanish applicants are encouraged to apply.

Salary:

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. A comprehensive state benefits package is available.
