ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. In charge of the district office, which includes managing daily operations, supervising district staff and interns and maintaining the Representative's district schedule. 
  2. Leads formulation and execution of strategic plan to address areas of need for constituents of District 101 with measurable outcomes. 
  3. Serves as principal point of contact for the district office, and maintains positive working relationships with opinion leaders and district stakeholders. 
  4. Maintains an active presence within the community, including attending evening and weekend events. 
  5. Staffs the Representative at events in and around House District 101. 
  6. Assists in managing the Representative’s social media. Takes pictures at events and drafts timely social media posts. 
  7. Monitors and assesses current local developments as they pertain to the district and the local community, anticipates potential challenges and advises the Representative. 
  8. Prepares briefing materials for the Representative in advance of meetings with local officials and community members. 
  9. Serves on committees and work groups to help promote the priorities established by the community and the Representative. 
  10. Performs special projects for the district as it relates to promoting and improving community relations for the district and the Representative, including planning education events for members of the community. 
  11. Performs other duties as assigned. 

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to interact and effectively communicate with the community, including public/governmental representatives.
  • Strong computer skills and high level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Must be self-starter with the ability to exercise initiative and think creatively and independently. 
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must have reliable transportation. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Directly related experience in developing and promoting community relations in the local area/region.
  • Demonstrated experience in community engagement and relationship management.
  • Proficient in Spanish. 

WORK SCHEDULE

  • Works in an office environment and out in the community, with occasional travel to Austin and other regional destinations required for meetings/staffing the Representative. 
  • Will be required to work beyond regular 8am-5pm working hours, on weekends and several holidays.
