The Austin Office of State Representative Shofner is currently accepting applications for the Fall 2027 Semester. The deadline to apply is August 1st at 11:59 PM CST. Please contact Chief of Staff, Carter Moxley, at Carter.Moxley@house.texas.gov to submit your application or if you have questions regarding the application process.  You will be asked to complete a questionnaire after submitting your application.

In order to apply for an internship, students must have graduated from high school and completed at least one semester of college classes. Recent graduates are welcome to apply. Students from East Texas are highly encouraged to apply. Students who possess a liberty-focused mindset for policy and social issues are encouraged  to apply. Applicants should provide the following items to receive full consideration in the application process:

  • Resume
  • Official college transcript
  • Cover Letter detailing why you would like to work in this office
  • One or two college-level writing samples, policy-related preferred
  • Two references with their email and phone number

Daily Tasks:

  • Students assist with regional outreach and constituent relations in addition to normal office activities that include but are not limited to:
  • Answering phones, reviewing voicemails, and logging constituent correspondence
  • Assisting constituents with connecting to staffers who can best meet their needs
  • Processing email, mail, and packages received
  • Reviewing news items and compiling for office use
  • Legislative research and follow-up for staff and constituents
  • Assisting casework team with processing constituent requests and correspondence
  • Supporting the Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program in processing and tracking applications
  • Various special projects for different staffers as needed
