(Austin, Tx) – On Monday the House Committee on Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence heard House Bill 2989, relating to the jurisdiction of the County Court at Law No. 2 of Kaufman County. Raising of the jurisdiction of Kaufman County Court at Law No. 2 to address the expanding case load in the area is a priority of Representative Bell, and he offered the following statement:
"To improve judicial efficiency, Kaufman County Court at Law No. 2 needs the ability to hear the same type of cases as County Court at Law No. 1." Representative Bell has heard input from local judges and county officials and has recognized the need to raise the jurisdiction of Kaufman County Court at Law No. 2.
"Kaufman County is the fourth fastest growing county in Texas! We can wait for growth to overload our already busy dockets or we can confront growth with proper planning. In this instance, proper planning means having both County Court's having like jurisdiction. I am thankful Chairman Leach heard HB 2989 and am anticipating favorable consideration by the members." stated Representative Bell.
