San Antonio – On Monday evening, December 9th, the submission deadline for candidates seeking to serve in the Texas Legislature passed. For House District 125, which encompasses the Westside of San Antonio and Leon Valley, incumbent State Representative Ray Lopez will seek re-election unopposed against a major party affiliated opponent in the district’s primary and general elections.

Following the submission deadline, Representative Lopez stated, “Campaigns should be less about the candidate and more about the issues. This opportunity will allow me to take a strong approach towards policy reform for the betterment of our community and our state.” He said that “Given my last election, I am beyond grateful to the public and my colleagues for trusting in me to run unopposed.” Representative Lopez came into office on March 21st of this year, after a special election that featured 5 candidates.

While the Representative had anticipated having opposition and was ready to meet the challenge, he deeply appreciates the opportunity to focus more on developing the initiatives and legislative reforms he and his community want to see brought to the 87th legislative session.

Serving on the Northside ISD Board of Directors, Education Service Center, Region 20 Board of Directors and San Antonio City Council for a combined twenty years, Ray is no stranger to public service. With the 87th legislative session potentially being his first full session at the state level, Representative Lopez is eager to act on the behalf of his community to his fullest of his abilities as a policymaker. He is grateful to have this opportunity to focus more effort to achieve that goal.
