AUSTIN - State Representative Scott Sanford was appointed by newly elected Speaker of the House, Dennis Bonnen, to serve on the following House committees: Ways and Means, Public Education, and House Administration.

Representative Sanford commented on the committee assignments, stating: "I am honored to be appointed to these essential committees and I look forward to working with my fellow members to bring much needed change to public school finance and the current state of property taxes.

Representative Sanford continued, expressing his tremendous excitement to represent House District 70 for a fourth term: "As always, I am humbled to continue serving the wonderful people of Collin County. I am committed to achieving excellence for our constituents and ensuring that their voices and concerns are not just heard, but also acted upon."

As the 86th Legislature organizes to focus primarily on the issues of school finance and property tax reform, Representative Sanford is prepared to serve on these committees in efforts to bring much needed change to these vital state issues. Listed below are the roles of the committees in which Representative Sanford will serve:

The House Ways & Means Committee has jurisdiction over all bills and resolutions proposing to raise state revenue, proposing to levy state taxes or other fees, proposals to modify, amend, or change any existing state tax or revenue statute, all bills and resolutions relating to the Tax Code; and the following state agencies: the Office of Multistate Tax Compact Commissioner for Texas and the Comptroller of Public Accounts. The House Public Education Committee has jurisdiction over all matters pertaining to K-12 education and the financing thereof; the state programming of elementary and secondary education for the public school system of Texas. The House Administration Committee has jurisdiction over administrative operation of the house and its employees, the adoption of policies and procedures for appropriate workplace conduct, all radio, television, and Internet broadcasting, live or recorded, of sessions of the house, and all policies involving visitors.

Scott is a life-long Texan, and a Baylor Bear for about half of that time. He earned BBA and MTax degrees, and maintains a CPA license in the State of Texas. His career path includes positions at Ernst & Young, and ownership in two franchise endeavors. Scott has served Cottonwood Creek Church in Allen, TX since 1997 and is currently an Executive Pastor. He married Shelly Parks in 1987. They live in McKinney, the heart of the 70th House District. Their son Ryan, daughter-in-law Jaclyn, their daughter Lauren, and son-in-law Andrew are all Baylor graduates. Scott is currently serving his fourth term.
