Austin, TX-- Today, Rep. Drew Springer laid out HB 1936, a bill that would prohibit state and local taxpayer dollars from being used to fund abortion providers and affiliates, such as Planned Parenthood. This bill is a critical component of Governor's Abbott's LIFE Initiative that also includes making it illegal to risk a woman's health to preserve fetal body parts, expanding and improving adoption service availability, and eliminating and criminalizing any sale or transaction of fetal tissue for any purpose.
Tomorrow, Rep. Springer will also lay out an amendment to the proposed 2018-19 biennium House Budget to remove state funding to providers like Planned Parenthood which would correct the issue currently. There is, however, no permanent ban to prevent state and local governments from contributing tax dollars to abortion services in the future. HB 1936 along with SB 855, by State Senator Donna Campbell, closes the local loophole indefinitely by prohibiting taxpayer dollars collected by any political subdivision of the state from being used to fund abortion facilities and affiliates.
"We have allowed organizations like Planned Parenthood to perform theses heinous acts on the taxpayers' dime for far too long. It is our duty as citizens of this great State to be the voice for the unborn and end the funding for those that administer these procedures once and for all," said Rep. Springer.
