Austin, TX--On Thursday, Speaker of the House, Joe Straus, announced Committee Assignments for the 85th Legislature and appointed Rep. Drew Springer as Vice Chairman of County Affairs. The House Committee on County Affairs handles issues pertaining to county governments and other rural topics.
Additionally, Speaker Straus reappointed Rep. Springer to the House Ways & Means Committee to continue his leadership on tax issues for the State of Texas. This committee handles all of the tax policy for the state and will address key issues, such as property tax reform. Rep. Springer was also appointed to the Committee on Redistricting, which is a concern for this Session due to the pending federal lawsuit that may force redistricting in Texas.
In his third term as House Representative for District 68, Rep. Springer strives to continue to effectively represent the rural perspective of HD 68 while maintaining his strong, conservative principles.
Rep. Springer, when asked about his appointments by the Speaker, stated the following, "I am honored to be appointed Vice Chair of County Affairs and to be reappointed to the Ways and Means Committee. Both committees are essential to the legislative priorities of rural Texans, and I believe that by serving on these committees I will continue to be able to promote rural values, protect our liberties, and address local issues."
