Rep. Bell Begins Filing Legislation  print page

by: Rep. Bell, Cecil

Austin, TX - This morning, State Representative Cecil Bell, Jr. (Magnolia) began filing legislation in anticipation of the 85th Session of the Texas Legislature. After last session, Rep. Bell immediately began working on his legislative agenda for 2017, meeting with countless members of the community, local elected officials, and stakeholders. The issues presented here are those that Rep. Bell's constituents have told him are important for the 85th Legislature to address: public education, property taxes, and federal overreach, to name a few. Included in the first roll-out of his agenda are:

• HB 136: Relating to inclusion of career and technology education and workforce training in the mission of public education
• HB 139: Relating to the authority of a property owner to request that notice of a protest hearing before the appraisal review board be delivered by certified mail
• HB 204: Relating to placing the name of a withdrawn, deceased, or ineligible candidate for public office on the ballot
• HB 150/HJR 21: Relating to the exemption from ad valorem taxation of part of the appraised value of the residence homestead of a partially disabled veteran or the surviving spouse of a partially disabled veteran if the residence homestead was donated to the disabled veteran by a charitable organization for less than the market value of the residence homestead
• HB 167/HJR 26: Relating to a limitation on the maximum appraised value of real property for ad valorem tax purposes of 105 percent of the appraised value of the property for the preceding tax year
• HB 297: Relating to the designation of January 9 as Law Enforcement Appreciation Day
• HCR 28: Expressing opposition to United Nations Agenda 21
• HCR 29: Declaring that presidential executive orders cannot interfere with states' rights

"In my time representing House District 3, I have strived to be the voice of my constituents. Government is only effective when its citizens are being heard. Every bill I file, amendment I offer, and vote I take is done with the desire to build and keep the trust of those I represent," said Rep. Bell.

In the coming weeks Rep. Bell will introduce additional legislation on public education and mental health.
