KERRVILLE, TEXAS Today, State Representative Andrew Murr hosted a working luncheon with several Hill Country school superintendents to discuss a variety of important issues likely to be addressed in the upcoming legislative session in Austin, which will begin in January 2017. Among those in attendance were Wade Ivy, Interim Superintendent of Kerrville ISD, Bobby Templeton, Superintendent of Ingram ISD, Regina Howell, Superintendent of Bandera ISD, Crystal Dockery, Superintendent of Hunt ISD, and Cody Newcomb, Superintendent of Center Point ISD.

Many topics covered during the working luncheon included public school funding, a review of state funding and policy considerations if "additional state aid for tax reduction" (ASATAR) payments are discontinued, mental health issues and policies regarding school districts and youth, and mandatory educational testing of elementary students, among others. Representative Murr explained the importance of hearing from local leaders during the legislative session and how their input assists him in analyzing the local consequences of proposed legislation. "I greatly appreciate all the hard work that our teachers, administrators and school district staff do to educate our children, provide a safe learning environment, and literally make the buses run on time. School started for thousands of students this week, including my second grader, and I know that learning is underway in classrooms across the Hill Country."

At the conclusion of the working luncheon, Murr extended his appreciation and gratitude for these administrators taking time out of their busy schedules to visit about topics important to each individual district and deliberating on the course of state education policy.
