Avalon ISD Nominated for National Blue Ribbon School  print page

by: Rep. Wray, John

Honored guests will be Representative John Wray and Congressman Joe Barton

AUSTIN, Texas – Avalon School District is one of only 25 campuses in Texas that has been nominated for the 2014 National Blue Ribbon School recognition by the Texas Commissioner of Education. The U.S. Department of Education program honors schools for academic excellence for dramatically improving student performance. Winners will be announced in Washington in September. The Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle, and high school campuses. The program dates back to 1982 and only 7,000 schools have been honored through 2013.

On Friday, Representative John Wray and Congressman Joe Barton presented the Blue Ribbon Resolution as honored guests. "Avalon ISD has played a vital role in educating our children and I am glad to see their hard work pay off with this nomination," said Representative John Wray. " I commend the faculty and staff of Avalon ISD for their commitment to academic achievement and excellence."

"This nomination is one that is not earned by any single component," Superintendent Dr. David Del Bosque stated. "Accolades such as these speak to the efforts of all of us working together – teachers, administrators, staff, parents, board of trustees and community - working for one common goal – to provide the best possible education for every individual child."

John Wray is a principled conservative serving his first term as Texas State Representative of House District 10, the area encompassing Ellis County and part of Henderson County. John currently resides in Waxahachie with his wife, Michele, and their two children, Morgan and Patrick.
