AUSTIN, Texas – Jan. 31, 2013 – Texas Representative Eddie Rodriguez (Austin) was appointed to serve on two prominent House committees for the 83rd Legislative Session. Representative Rodriguez will serve on the House Committee on Business and Industry, and the House Committee on Economic and Small Business Development.

"I'm grateful to Speaker Straus and honored to be appointed to serve on these two important House committees that address vital issues for our state," said Representative Rodriguez. "I look forward to making progress within my roles on these committees to determine ways to stimulate business growth and job retention in Texas.”

The House Committee on Business and Industry's jurisdiction includes business regulations; consumer protections; industry and manufacturing; industrial safety and work conditions; oversight of the construction industry; homeowners' associations; and privacy and identity theft.

The House Committee on Economic and Small Business Development has jurisdiction over matters pertaining to workforce training; commerce, trade and manufacturing; economic and industrial development; development and support of small businesses; job creation and job-training programs; employment; labor unions; and weights and measures.

"These committees will shape the success of our state, and impact the future of Texas for generations to come," said Representative Rodriguez. "My experience as Vice Chair of the House Interim Committee on Manufacturing will be beneficial in my roles on both committees to help address building a skilled workforce, providing quality jobs to increase employment for Texans, and increasing economic development in District 51, and our communities across the state."

Representative Eddie Rodriguez was first elected to the State Legislature in 2002. He was re-elected in November 2012 to his sixth term as the Representative from District 51, serving East and South Austin, and Southeast Travis County.
