AUSTIN--State Representative Joe Moody was recognized today for his legal experience and his desire to work on border issues affecting El Paso. Rep. Moody was appointed to two substantive committees for the 81st Legislative Session by House Speaker Joe Straus. Rep. Moody, was appointed to the House Committees on Border and Intergovernmental Affairs, and Criminal Jurisprudence.

"I am honored and privileged to serve the people of Texas on these two committees," Rep. Moody said. "I thank Speaker Straus for having the confidence in me to work with him on the important issues facing Texas. These committees allow me to serve the people of El Paso in an important way and I appreciate that he allowed me to do that."

"The Committee on Border and Intergovernmental Affairs deals with charges that are extremely relevant to El Paso and I look forward to meeting the challenges that come along with border issues," Rep. Moody said. "We will be responsible for crafting a conscientious border policy that invests in the well-being of El Paso's future."

Rep. Moody went on to say, "The violence on the border is something I hope to address with this committee assignment. It will take all levels of government to cooperate with one another in order to build a more secure Texas. We must be proactive in shaping our future."

Rep. Moody's other committee assignment was Criminal Jurisprudence. As a former prosecutor in El Paso, this was a natural fit. "Criminal Jurisprudence was one of my top choices for committee assignments due to my professional background. I intend to work towards maintaining the safety of our community, as well as focusing on crucial issues such as family violence and victims' rights."
