Rep. Joseph Moody Sworn in for First Term

AUSTIN--Rep. Joe Moody was sworn in January 13th for his first term in the Texas House of Representatives.

"I am overjoyed to be able to serve the people of District 78 and all of El Paso. Many issues important to our community are on the table this session--and I'm looking forward to working with our El Paso delegation, my house colleagues, and the new Speaker Joe Straus to address our shared priorities for Texas," Moody said.

Rep. Moody has been meeting with local business and community leaders to address issues important to the district. In particular, funding for UTEP and Texas Tech medical school, addressing the growth of Fort Bliss, lowering property taxes, and reestablishing Tigua gaming were high on the list of priorities. Moody said he would work closely with all members to ensure that policies important to the district are adopted in Austin.

"I am eager to address the issues affecting families in my district," Moody said. "I'm in Austin to serve as the voice of my constituents and I'm committed to that calling. The tone for this session has been set by appointing a new Speaker. This session will be more about policy than politics, and that is a positive thing for Texas."

The Texas Legislature will stay in session for 140 days between January and May. This is the 81st session since Texas entered the Union in 1845.

District 78 residents are encouraged to contact Rep. Moody and his staff in his capitol office during session at 512-463-0728.
