Austin — January 27, 2005 — Representative Charles “Doc” Anderson (Waco) received the distinction today of being named Vice-Chair of the House Committee on Agriculture and Livestock. House Speaker Tom Craddick (Midland) released committee assignments for all 150 House members today in Austin.

Rep. Anderson was also named to the Elections Committee and the Committee on Rules and Resolutions.

“This is a real honor for me”, said Rep. Anderson of his committee assignments, “and I am grateful for the contribution I’ll be able to make for the good of Texas and my constituents. Speaker Craddick has bestowed on me a position of trust that reflects our mutual desires and concerns for the Heart of Texas region. I’m looking forward to getting down to work.”

The Committee on Agriculture and Livestock will consider legislation setting the agricultural policy of the state and oversee the operations of agencies such as the Texas Department of Agriculture, the Texas Animal Health Commission, and Agriculture Extension agencies. The committee has seven members, and is chaired by Rep. Rick Hardcastle (Vernon).

McLennan County has over 2500 farms, encompassing more than 500,000 acres and producing some $60 million annually in crop and livestock sales, according to the United States Department of Agriculture. “With the importance of agriculture to the region, and my experience as a veterinarian, this is a very good committee to be on in my first term,” Rep. Anderson said.

House committees begin meeting next week in Austin.
