Biography

Representative Greg Bonnen (Friendswood) is Chair of the House Appropriations Committee and is currently serving his fifth term as State Representative for House District 24.

Prior to serving as Chair of the House Appropriations Committee, he served as Chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher and Public Education and as a member of the Insurance Committee. He has also previously served on the Energy Resources Committee; Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Human Services; Appropriations Subcommittee on General Government, the Judiciary, and Criminal Justice; Joint Interim Committee on Coastal Barrier Systems; Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) Funding Structure Oversight Board; Interim Committee on Border Security; and Interim Committee on Mental Health.

Representative Bonnen has been named a Courageous Conservative by the Texas Conservative Coalition, Guardian of Small Business by the National Federation of Independent Business, Texas Values Faith and Family Champion, and Pro-Life Hero.

Dr. Bonnen is a practicing neurosurgeon and serves as the Chairman of the Board of Houston Physicians’ Hospital.

Dr. Bonnen grew up in Angleton and graduated cum laude from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry, and attended medical school at UTMB where he also did his neurosurgery residency and served for two years as an assistant professor of neurosurgery. During college, Representative Bonnen spent two summers working as a counselor at Texas Lion's Camp for handicapped children, which he credits with introducing him to both his profession as a doctor and his wife, Kim. He has continued to devote time to his church and different charitable organizations and has participated in numerous mission trips to Mexico, Panama, Haiti, Cuba, and the Philippines.

Representative Bonnen and his wife Kim live in Friendswood and have two daughters, Lindsay and Janae.

El representante Greg Bonnen (Friendswood) es el presidente del Comité de Asignaciones de la Cámara y este es su quinto término como representante estatal del distrito 24.

Antes de ser presidente del Comité de Asignaciones, fue presidente del Subcomité de Asignaciones para la Educación Pública y Superior, y miembro del Comité de Seguros. Previamente, trabajó en el Comité de Recursos Energéticos; en el Subcomité de Asignaciones para Salud y Servicios Humanos; en el Subcomité de Asignaciones para el Gobierno en General; en el Comité de Justicia Penal y Judicial; en el Comité Conjunto del Sistema de Barrera de la Costa; en la Junta de Supervisión Estructural de la Asociación de Seguros de Tormentas de Texas (TWIA); en el Comité Provisional de Seguridad Fronteriza, y en el Comité Provisional de Salud Mental.

El representante Bonnen ha sido nombrado “conservador valiente” por la Coalición Conservadora de Texas; “protector de las pequeñas empresas” por la Federación Nacional de Negocios Independientes; “campeón de los valores de fe y de familia” y “héroe provida” por Texas Values.
El Dr. Bonnen es neurocirujano practicante, y preside la Junta Directiva del Hospital Houston Physicians’.

El Dr. Bonnen creció en Angleton y se graduó con la distinción cum laude de la Universidad Texas A&M con un título en Ciencias, especializado en Bioquímica. Asistió a la Facultad de Medicina en UTMB, donde completó su residencia en neurocirugía y fue profesor de neurocirugía durante dos años. En la universidad, el representante Bonnen pasó dos veranos trabajando como consejero en el campamento Texas Lion's para niños con discapacidades, a lo que atribuye la introducción a la profesión de médico y haber conocido a su esposa, Kim. Continúa dedicando tiempo a su iglesia y a diferentes organizaciones de caridad, y ha participado en numerosas misiones a México, Panamá, Haití, Cuba y Filipinas.

El representante Bonnen y su esposa, Kim, viven en Friendswood y tienen dos hijas, Lindsay y Janae.
